About Laura
Laura has known complementary and alternative forms of health care as a way of life since she was a very young child. Receiving chiropractic care and using herbs to recover from sickness led to then receiving massage and later acupuncture.
Her own interest in practicing these modalities began with animals. Laura focused her higher education on providing health care for animals first in the form of veterinary medicine, always with a mind toward providing complementary and alternative means of health care even for the animals she planned to work with in her practice.
With a strong and wide foundation in biology, anatomy, physiology, and other sciences of the body in place, she chose to listen to the ever more present call from massage and CranioSacral therapies. Following her inner guidance, she studied massage therapy for horses, building even more of an anatomy and physiology foundation and adding in kinesiology, the study of movement of the body, and of course, massage techniques.
From here she deepened her massage knowledge by attending human massage therapy school. While completing the 500 hour program for human massage, she was excited to learn the following three things in particular: the muscles structure and functions are the same between non-human animals and humans, with appropriate variations per species; the massage techniques are broadly the same between all the species, including humans; and she now had the opportunity to address a whole picture in working with horses and their riders.
While her horse and human practice grew in Colorado, and she did begin to work with horses and their riders, Laura's drive for knowledge continued to fuel her desire to learn more techniques. She chose CranioSacral therapy as the field in which to now focus her learning. Out of massage school and with an already established private practice, she took three CranioSacral classes in one year, two with regard to human therapy and one in applying the techniques to working with horses. With confidence and amazement, Laura blended these CranioSacral therapy techniques with her massage work, and the blend was beneficial to many of her clients.
She began to see quickly though that she was better able to help the clients that were coming to her with using CranioSacral therapy, including massage techniques only when necessary to alleviate an immediate ache or pain. And thus, CranioSacral became the main stay of her practice, even with the horses.
Then, children began showing up as clients.
Laura's education continued to Pediatric CranioSacral therapy which has become her primary specialty, especially with newborns and infants. The beauty of CranioSacral therapy for such young children is that they are so ready to shift, change and heal. They actively dive into the work and participate fully in their health and healing. It is awe inspiring to participate in a session with such a young child, who so clearly grasps the power of the work and who is fully engaged.
Currently, Laura is working only 1-2 days a week as she has returned to her education full time. Laura is completing her Pre-Med undergraduate requirements with an Anthropology major at UMBC. From there she will attend osteopathic medical school to become a Doctor of Osteopathy. She has a strong interest in family and rural medicine and will bring the power of osteopathic manipulations as well as CranioSacral therapy to her medical practice.
